Overall, I’m happy with our fitted wardrobes by Fittingly. The only exception was that the doors took so long to arrive, which meant I couldn’t use/paint my wardrobe them for about a 6-7 weeks. I also had issues with some scuffs on the boards, which had to be replaced (and one board that never got replaced).

The length of my process with Fittingly
It took around two months for the full process to be completed. Here’s a breakdown of what that looked like:
- Started the design process on 16th Feb: first, we used the online wardrobe design tool, which doesn’t show prices, then you have to arrange a design call to reveal the prices
- Design sign-off call on 9th March: After back and forth about designs, which included a Zoom meeting where we remeasured the space in front of the designer, it was time to pay and sign off on the designs!
- Wardrobe parts qeued for production on 11th March: We then got an email to say that our wardrobe was qeued for production, where the warehouse will start getting the parts together.
- Parts delivered on 15th April: All of our parts were carefully placed in our bedroom awaiting fitting the next day!
- Fitted on 16th April (the next day after delivery): We had just one guy fitting the entire wardrobes and he spent pretty much the full day doing this (from about 8am – 6pm)

Issues we had with Fittingly
There were some issues with our wardrobes when fitted, I’ve listed my experience below:
- The doors didn’t come with delivery as the warehouse said they were scuffed so they were reordered. We waited another month for these!
- One of the draw doors were scuffed and they come to replace it but then the replacement was scuffed – never heard back!
- For the above about the draw door, we weren;t told when the first replacement would come but we randomly got a knock on the door at 7pm with the delivery fitter guy saying he could do it (not a huge issue, but was unexpected).

Wardrobe design using fittingly
Below are my designs of the space, with two wardrobes between my fireplace wall.

This is the design of the wardrobes with the door features and handle selection. I went for simple doors and went for the ‘Shaker Modern’ ones, which I think look elegant and timeless. The handles I chose were the Barringtone Bronze. These were the more expensive ones and I wasn’t disappointed!

Left side of the fireplace wardrobe with double rails, upper shelf and lower drawers. I decided to sacrifice more drawers in exchange for a second rail, as I like to have my trousers hung up. Also, the second rail can fit my vest tops and summer wear.

Right side of the fireplace, more simple and refined inside space with two drawers and shelves, with a rail also!
Before and After fitted wardrobe transformation between a fireplace wall

We knew we didn’t want to have freestanding wardrobes in this space and wanted to have something bespoke to make use of the high ceilings. You can see that the room was purple when we bought the home and now we’ve gone for a more eutral and cozy colour scheme. We didn’t bother painting the back walls, as it was a waste of time now the wardrobes were being installed!

Between the fireplace, there’s good depth for the wardrobes. We researched online and a lof of wardrobes are about 60cm deep, so we based this on the depth of ours. As you can see from the masking table on the carpet on the right, when we measured it out, it means the wardrobes would only come out about 25cm which was great as it saves space in the room.

Painting in progress
See below some images of the painting in progress to get an idea of how it all came together.

As the doors didn’t come in time, I painted around them, which was actually a blessing in disguise, as I wouldn’t have liked to have painted the whole thing with the doors on!

This is what the wardrobes looked like before painting the doors! We are so glad to have chosen the paintable Malamane; it makes all the difference in customising your space.
The completed look with shelving!

This is how the wardrobes looked when all painted! Ignore the carpet, that’s next on our list to do.

To complete the look further, I bought these bespoke live-edge shelves in a lovely walnut colour to make a feature of this space! Eventually, I will be putting some artwork in the top space.

Here’s my mood board for my bedroom, using LICK Beige 03 on the wardrobes and Valspar Brown Button on the walls. I chose these colours together as the beige has a hint of grey in it and can feel cosy with the right lighting. Plus, I love how the room changes colour depending on the sunlight that comes through. This space feels cosy but light and airy.

Things to Consider When Going with Fittingly…
- Make sure you give enough time to the design process. We had about 2 calls and many emails back and forth to get it right.
- Opt for a paintable finish, as it makes all the difference when you want to customise your space.
- The paintable material still needs anding and prepping, so bear this in mind.
- Check all materials when they get delivered for scuffs etc
- There wasn’t a lot of choice in design alterations you can make using the design tool online. We started with a draft, and then the design expert had other tools to enhance the design – always check what other options there are, and don’t just stick to the design tool!
- The materials used aren’t superior to that of IKEA, what you’re mostly paying for is the custom arrangement and design.
- Get yourself a good measuring tool. We had a manual tape and an electric one – we triple checked everything.
How much we paid for Fittingly fitted wardrobes
For the two wardrobes between our fireplace wall, we paid a total of £3169. We could have got a similar fitted wardrobe from IKEA for about £900, excluding fitting fee. Overall, I am pleased with the cost and what we got for it. I love the wardrobes and having the long doors and custom rails and drawers makes all the difference!
